Why We Chose Cloudberry

Most paw balms are designed for general conditions. We formulate for real winter. There’s a difference.

When temperatures drop below freezing, when pavement is salted daily, and when dry heated indoor air compounds moisture loss, ingredient choices matter.

That’s why we chose cloudberry seed oil. Not because it is trendy. Not because it is common. Because it aligns with cold-climate performance.

Arctic Gold Is Rare for a Reason

Cloudberries grow in northern boglands across Scandinavia, Canada, and Alaska. In Nordic regions, they are often called Arctic gold. They are difficult to harvest, limited in supply, and rarely used in mass-produced products.

Cloudberry seed oil is not a budget ingredient. It is intentionally uncommon.

Documented Nutrient Density

Cloudberry seed oil contains vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, and naturally occurring antioxidant compounds. Those components are aligned with supporting the skin’s lipid barrier, which matters in freezing climates where moisture loss, salt exposure, and abrasion are predictable.

Designed for Sub-Zero Conditions

Winter creates a predictable stress cycle: cold air strips moisture, ice melt salt pulls hydration from skin, freeze-thaw exposure weakens the barrier, and dry indoor heat compounds the damage.

Many oils are chosen for softness in mild conditions. We chose an ingredient that evolved in Arctic conditions.

Why It Costs More

Rare ingredients cost more. Hard-to-source ingredients cost more. Formulating without artificial fillers or fragrance costs more. But purity and performance were non-negotiable.

We didn’t build this to compete at the lowest price point. We built it for real winter.
